A Brooklyn care briefing

# A peptide name is only part of the picture

A long medicine name can make an offer feel harder to question. It helps to pull the words apart before looking at the promise of a result.

## What the word tells you

Peptides link together the small building blocks found in proteins; insulin belongs to this group. [\[a\]](#source-a)

- Ask for the full medicine name, rather than a menu heading such as recovery or wellness.

- Ask what condition the clinician would be assessing.

- Keep a copy of the exact name for the visit.

## Find out what the agency reviewed

FDA means the Food and Drug Administration, the federal medicine agency.

The word peptide cannot tell you whether a product is safe or legal. The approval information here was checked on September 26, 2026. [\[a\]](#source-a)

As of September 26, 2026, approved medicines included tirzepatide (Mounjaro, Zepbound) and semaglutide (Ozempic, Wegovy). Each approval applies to a particular product and use. [\[b\]](#source-b)

- An FDA-approved product has been reviewed for a particular use; that review is not a personal treatment plan. [\[b\]](#source-b)

- Ask which product and which use the offer actually refers to.

## Words worth translating at the visit

Ask for plain words whenever a label gets in the way. These are useful questions to copy.

- What is the active ingredient—the part of the medicine doing the work?

- Would this medicine be compounded—made to order to meet a patient’s needs?

- What would the proposed medicine change for the problem I came to discuss?
