A Brooklyn care guide
# A care map for Brooklyn peptide injections.
Maybe a treatment menu caught your eye. It helps to separate the medicine, the person providing care and the bill.
A peptide links together a small chain of the building blocks in proteins. [\[c\]](#source-c)

Read it on the stoop.
## Keep the name, the person and the price separate
An offer can sound clear until you try to write it down. Give each part its own line.
- The medicine: what is its exact name, and why is it being offered?
- The person: which clinician—the health professional assessing you—would you see, and where can you check their licence?
- The bill: what does the quoted price include, and what comes later?
## A useful New York detail
New York’s licence records are held by the State Education Department’s Office of the Professions, which also licenses doctors. [\[a\]](#source-a)
As of September 28, 2026, the state search listed doctors, nurses, pharmacists and pharmacies. That date tells you when the search information was checked. [\[b\]](#source-b)
- Get the person’s full name before opening the search.
- Keep the medicine question separate from the licence check.
## Pick the question on your mind
### Unpack the offer
- [What does peptide mean?](/answers/) Pull apart the words on a treatment menu. ↗
- [Which medicine is on offer?](/medicine-question-brief/) Ask whether FDA, the US medicine agency, approved that product for the proposed use. ↗
- [Why make a medicine to order?](/compounding-briefing/) Ask what need calls for a medicine made specially for you. ↗
- [Does the proof match?](/evidence-brief/) Read the claim with the actual product in mind. ↗
### Check the care around it
- [A room or a screen?](/care-question-brief/) Ask how assessment and follow-up would work. ↗
- [Who would assess me?](/licence-question-brief/) Find the New York record for that person. ↗
- [Who sends the medicine?](/pharmacy-question-brief/) Get the pharmacy’s name and check the state’s records. ↗
- [What could go wrong?](/safety-brief/) Prepare questions about the product and getting help. ↗
### Get ready to decide
- [What is the full bill?](/cost-brief/) Compare the medicine, visits and extras separately. ↗
- [What might my plan pay?](/coverage-brief/) Take the exact medicine name to the plan. ↗
- [What do I take to a visit?](/visit-briefing/) Copy a question sheet, or read it on paper. ↗
- [Which official page do I open?](/source-file/) Keep the New York tools and complaint routes handy. ↗
## Leave room for an actual conversation
Arriving with an unanswered question is fine. Use the visit to discuss possible care, rather than arrive with a treatment chosen.
- What are we trying to treat?
- What else could we discuss?
- Who would I reach after the visit?

# A peptide name is only part of the picture
A long medicine name can make an offer feel harder to question. It helps to pull the words apart before looking at the promise of a result.
## What the word tells you
Peptides link together the small building blocks found in proteins; insulin belongs to this group. [\[a\]](#source-a)
- Ask for the full medicine name, rather than a menu heading such as recovery or wellness.
- Ask what condition the clinician would be assessing.
- Keep a copy of the exact name for the visit.
## Find out what the agency reviewed
FDA means the Food and Drug Administration, the federal medicine agency.
The word peptide cannot tell you whether a product is safe or legal. The approval information here was checked on September 26, 2026. [\[a\]](#source-a)
As of September 26, 2026, approved medicines included tirzepatide (Mounjaro, Zepbound) and semaglutide (Ozempic, Wegovy). Each approval applies to a particular product and use. [\[b\]](#source-b)
- An FDA-approved product has been reviewed for a particular use; that review is not a personal treatment plan. [\[b\]](#source-b)
- Ask which product and which use the offer actually refers to.
## Words worth translating at the visit
Ask for plain words whenever a label gets in the way. These are useful questions to copy.
- What is the active ingredient—the part of the medicine doing the work?
- Would this medicine be compounded—made to order to meet a patient’s needs?
- What would the proposed medicine change for the problem I came to discuss?

# Choose a visit format, then ask how the care works
Does a room feel easier than a screen? Put the format you prefer beside questions about tests, the person treating you and help afterward.
## In a room or through a screen
Telehealth uses a screen, phone or other electronic tools to connect a person with care. [\[a\]](#source-a)
- At a clinic, find out who makes the treatment decision and who carries out the procedure.
- For a licensed telehealth service, ask how you can speak to the clinician and send further questions.
- For either route, ask where any examination or tests would happen.
## New York still matters online
For ordinary care in New York, the person treating you usually needs a full New York licence and current registration. Current registration shows permission to practise now, rather than just a licence issued in the past. Requirement checked: September 28, 2026. [\[a\]](#source-a)
- A licence gives permission to practise. Check that registration is current too; finding a licence number alone does not complete this check.
- Ask the service to show the person’s current registration in the state record.
- Mention where you will be during a remote visit, especially if you will be travelling.
## How would an examination be arranged?
For remote examinations, the Federation of State Medical Boards advises arranging any that are needed. If one is needed, the clinician must arrange it or direct you to another health professional for it. Examination advice checked: September 17, 2026. [\[b\]](#source-b)
This group publishes advice for state medical boards. That advice does not create a New York law.
- Who would arrange an examination?
- Where would test results go?
- Who would talk through the next decision with me?

# The answer changes with the exact medicine
It is fair to ask if an offer is real and allowed. Get the exact product name, then ask whether the US medicine agency approved it for the use being proposed.
## Approved products and other offers
The approval details below were checked on September 26, 2026. This is the date of the check, not when a medicine was approved. [\[a\]](#source-a)
### Approved examples
FDA is the Food and Drug Administration, the federal medicine agency.
Those records list semaglutide (Ozempic, Wegovy), plus tirzepatide (Mounjaro, Zepbound). Each one has set uses on its label. [\[a\]](#source-a)
- Ask for the product name and the reason for offering it to you.
- Ask to see the information for that specific medicine.
### Other names you may be offered
As of September 26, 2026, BPC-157 had no US approval record with FDA. [\[a\]](#source-a)
Compounding prepares a medicine to fit what a patient needs.
Neither cagrilintide nor retatrutide may be used for compounding under federal law, FDA says. That legal position was checked September 26, 2026. [\[b\]](#source-b)
- Do not treat a study name or a treatment menu as an approval record.
- Ask the prescriber whether the exact product has FDA approval for the proposed use.
## A prescription does not settle the approval question
The clinician’s order for medicine is called a prescription.
Federal law requires a valid prescription for a prescription medicine; we checked this requirement on September 26, 2026. [\[c\]](#source-c)
A medicine made to order does not gain FDA approval when a clinician writes a prescription for it. [\[d\]](#source-d)
- Ask which kind of medicine is proposed: a product with FDA approval, or a medicine prepared to order.
- If it would be made to order, read the compounding briefing for the questions to ask.

# Compounded medicines lack FDA approval
Compounded describes a medicine made specially to order. A doctor, pharmacist or registered drug-making facility prepares it in place of a finished product supplied by a drug company. [\[a\]](#source-a)
These medicines do not have approval from FDA, the US medicine agency. This approval information was checked on September 26, 2026. [\[a\]](#source-a)
## What is being prepared?
FDA says compounding may help when ready-made approved medicines cannot meet a patient’s medical need. It may also be an option when the approved product is not available to buy. [\[a\]](#source-a)
- What need would this preparation meet?
- Why would an approved product not meet it?
- Which pharmacy or facility would make it?
## What has not been reviewed?
Before sale, the compounded product has not gone through FDA’s review of whether it works, its quality or its safety. [\[a\]](#source-a)
- Custom is not a substitute for that review.
- Ask how the preparation is meant to address something specific about your care.
## Why a cheaper copy needs another question
Federal rules limit making medicines to order that are near copies of ready-made medicines already available. Copying rules checked: September 26, 2026. [\[b\]](#source-b)
For a regular compounding pharmacy, the prescriber decides whether the proposed change makes a significant difference for that named patient. A medicine changed in that way is not treated as a copy under this rule. [\[b\]](#source-b)
A lower price alone does not count as that significant difference for the patient.
The shortage list matters because a national shortage can allow certain compounding that would otherwise be restricted. [\[b\]](#source-b)
The national shortage list held by FDA contained no listing for semaglutide injections or tirzepatide injections on September 26, 2026. [\[c\]](#source-c)
- What change would be made to the medicine, and why would it matter for my medical need?
- Keep the price comparison separate from the explanation of why it can be compounded.

# Look up the person who would actually assess you
A service name is not enough for this check. Ask for the clinician’s full name, professional title and New York licence number, then compare the record with the offer.

In Albany’s reflecting pool.
## Use the state’s own record
As of September 28, 2026, New York’s Office of the Professions offered a free search for checking professional licences. It covered doctors, physician assistants, nurses and pharmacists. [\[a\]](#source-a)
- Choose the profession that matches the person’s title.
- Match the full name and any licence details you were given.
- Read whether the person is allowed to practise now; a matching name is only the beginning of the check.
- Ask the service to explain anything that does not match.
## For a doctor or physician assistant, check another record too
For a doctor or physician assistant, check the separate conduct record kept by New York’s Department of Health. These checking details were confirmed on September 28, 2026. [\[b\]](#source-b)
Discipline means official action about professional conduct. The licence search is not the whole conduct check for these professions.
- Use the conduct page linked in the notes below.
- Read the action itself if a matching record appears.
- Keep a note of which person and profession you checked.
## What a matching record leaves unanswered
A public record with no disciplinary action is not a rating of how good a clinician is. [\[c\]](#source-c)
- Who will hear my questions after the visit?
- What experience do you have with the condition being discussed?
- How would a change in my care be reviewed?

# Ask who would prepare and send the medicine
Keep this question even if the visit and the payment happen on the same website. Write down the actual pharmacy’s name, then check that name in the state’s records.
## Check the pharmacy behind a website’s claims
FDA, the US medicine agency, notes that an online customer may not know who actually made a medicine prepared to order. [\[a\]](#source-a)
New York’s public search lists pharmacies with state registration—the state’s permission to operate. These search details were checked on September 28, 2026. [\[b\]](#source-b)
- What is the pharmacy’s full official name?
- Would that name appear on the medicine label?
- How would I reach a pharmacist with questions?
## Check a pharmacy outside New York too
A pharmacy outside New York generally needs New York registration before mailing prescription medicines into the state. It also needs a licence where it operates. The pharmacy rules here were checked on September 28, 2026. [\[c\]](#source-c)
New York may make an exception for a pharmacy sending 600 or fewer prescriptions into the state in a calendar year. The limit concerns that pharmacy’s total, not just your package. [\[e\]](#source-e)
If the pharmacy claims an exception, ask New York’s pharmacy office to confirm how the rule applies to it.
- Look up the pharmacy’s name, rather than the service’s marketing name.
- Ask how its registration covers prescriptions sent to New York.
- Keep the answer with the product name and written quote.
## Registered does not mean approved
A drug-making business with FDA registration is entered in the federal agency’s records. That entry does not mean the medicine has approval or that it may legally be sold. Federal registration rule checked: September 26, 2026. [\[d\]](#source-d)
- Keep this federal record separate from the New York pharmacy check above. Ask what the website’s claims about the pharmacy actually prove.
- Ask who answers product questions after delivery.
- Use the compounding briefing to ask about the medicine itself.

# Ask for the full cost after the opening offer
The helpful figure is the amount you would pay for the proposed care, with the extras named. Put the visit, medicine, tests and follow-up on separate lines.

In Albany’s reflecting pool.
## Compare like prices before adding the fees
A list price, a cash offer and a payment through insurance can give different amounts for the same medicine. The price examples here were checked on September 26, 2026. [\[a\]](#source-a)
- List price: the maker’s published price, rather than your personal quote.
- Cash offer: the terms for paying outside insurance.
- Insured payment: the amount left to you under your own plan.
## A dated cash-price example for semaglutide
This example is for semaglutide (Ozempic) injection pens—devices that hold medicine for a shot. For patients using the introductory offer, it ended after two monthly supplies. Their later cash price was $349 or $499 each month, depending on prescribed strength. Those later prices were checked on September 26, 2026. [\[a\]](#source-a)
Only US residents who were adults could use that cash offer. Its terms barred claiming money back from insurance. The cost also could not count toward an insurance deductible. [\[a\]](#source-a)
The deductible is the part of a bill you pay before certain plan benefits kick in. Ask for your own quote; the example is a dated price record.
- What would the medicine cost under my proposed prescription?
- What would I pay after any offer ends?
- What amount would be due before I hear the clinician’s decision?
## Get the lines of the bill in writing
Use this list beside any quote. Ask the service to fill in what is included, what is extra and when a charge repeats.
- Initial assessment and any later visits.
- The medicine, delivery and any supplies.
- Tests, including who discusses the results.
- Any recurring membership, cancellation terms and refund terms.
- Charges if the clinician does not prescribe a medicine.

# Take the exact medicine name to your health plan
Ask your plan about the product named in the proposal and the condition it would treat. Help with paperwork from a service is still separate from the plan’s reply.
## Translate the plan’s answer
Have a place to write the answer beside each question. Ask the plan to explain unfamiliar terms in the reply.
- Is this medicine on the formulary—the plan’s list of covered medicines?
- Does it need prior authorization—the plan’s agreement before it will pay?
- What information would the prescriber need to send?
- What would I owe at the pharmacy?
- Would the visit and any tests be billed separately?
## Medicare has more than a single answer
On September 26, 2026, Medicare’s Part D drug benefit still excluded a medicine used for losing weight. [\[a\]](#source-a)
Using the medicine for another condition, such as diabetes, may qualify for Part D coverage. The plan’s covered-medicine list and approval rules still apply. Ask the plan whether your condition qualifies for that exact medicine. [\[b\]](#source-b)
### Ask about the separate Bridge route
Eligible people can pay $50 a month for selected weight medicines through the temporary Medicare Bridge. [\[c\]](#source-c)
July 1, 2026 was the Bridge’s opening date; December 31, 2027 is its scheduled end. Those program dates were checked on September 26, 2026. [\[c\]](#source-c)
Only people who meet the Bridge’s rules can use it. The program handles pharmacy payment separately from your usual Part D plan. Bridge payment rules checked: September 26, 2026. [\[c\]](#source-c)
- Use the official Bridge page to check eligibility with your prescriber.
- Ask the pharmacy how your $50 share would be paid through the Bridge.
## Keep the reply with the quote
Write down the plan’s reply, who gave it and what information is still missing. Take that note to the clinician rather than guessing at the next step.
- Ask what happens if coverage is declined.
- Ask for any cash quote separately from the insurance estimate.
- Check what you would be charged while a decision is pending.

# Get answers about the product and about help afterward
It is fair to slow the conversation down. Ask what could go wrong with the proposed medicine and who would help if something changed after the visit.
## Why the source of an injection matters
FDA, the US medicine agency, warned sellers that injections put products straight into the body. The body has protections against germs and poisonous substances. Injections can pass some of those protections and may cause serious harm. [\[a\]](#source-a)
This warning comes from FDA’s letters to sellers, checked on September 17, 2026. Ask which product you would receive and who made it. [\[a\]](#source-a)
- Which product information can I read?
- Who prepared the medicine?
- Who would teach me about its use and answer questions?
## A “research use only” label is no reassurance
Some unapproved weight medicines sold for people to use bear a label saying “for research purposes”. You may also see “not for human consumption”—words that rule out use by people. Those labels do not show that the medicine has been studied for your care. FDA warns that the quality is unknown and the products may cause harm. This warning was checked on September 26, 2026. [\[b\]](#source-b)
- Keep care questions with a licensed clinician.
- Ask for product instructions from the prescriber and pharmacist.

# Ask whether the proof matches the product on offer
A chart or a confident phrase can feel like an answer. Ask what was actually tested and how that connects to the medicine being proposed for you.
## Make the comparison specific
Copy the claim into a note, then ask the clinician to walk through it. Leave space beside it for the reply.
- Was the same product studied?
- Was it studied for the condition we are discussing?
- What was compared, and what result mattered to the people taking part?
- What does the evidence leave unanswered for my situation?
## Watch for a borrowed result
Clinical studies are studies involving people.
FDA, the US medicine agency, warns about claims for medicines made to order. It calls advertising false or misleading if it says studies in people prove these medicines match approved drugs’ results. [\[a\]](#source-a)
This advertising advice was checked on September 26, 2026. [\[a\]](#source-a)
- Ask whether the result being shown belongs to the exact product on offer.
- Ask the clinician to explain any gap between the study and the proposal.
## A report is a clue, not a verdict
Receiving a report of a problem does not tell FDA whether the medicine caused it. Advice about interpreting reports checked: September 17, 2026. [\[b\]](#source-b)
The reports do not give the rate of a problem across all people who use the medicine. [\[b\]](#source-b)
- Ask what kind of evidence supports a claim about benefit or harm.
- Ask what is known about the product, rather than treating every peptide as the same thing.

# Take a short list, leave with clear answers
A visit can feel rushed even when you have waited to arrange it. Copy the questions that matter to you and leave space to jot down the replies.

Questions can start on the stoop.
## Before the conversation
Gather what you want the clinician to know. A rough note is enough to begin the discussion.
- Write the problem or goal as you would describe it to a friend.
- Medicines and supplements you use, plus any allergies.
- Previous care and any test results you want to ask about.
- The exact medicine name and claim from the offer.
- Your questions about cost and follow-up.
## During the assessment
A remote visit does not remove the need for tests. Medical-board advice says the clinician must do needed tests, arrange the testing or direct you to another health professional for it. Testing advice checked: September 17, 2026. [\[a\]](#source-a)
- What condition are we assessing?
- What other choices can we discuss?
- Is an examination or test needed before deciding?
- Why this medicine, if any?
## Before agreeing to the next step
Ask to have the plan and the bill explained in words you would use at home. There is room to ask the same question again.
- What is included in the written quote?
- Who will explain the medicine’s label and instructions?
- Who would review results or a change in how I feel?
- Who handles questions once the appointment is over?
- What happens if we decide against a prescription?
## Leave a note for yourself
Afterward, write the proposed next step in your own words. Mark anything that still feels unclear and take it back to the person providing the care.
- What did I understand?
- What is still unanswered?
- What do I want clarified before deciding?
